Join the California Nature Art Museum for a Kid Craft art workshop on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 11:00AM- 1:00PM, creating artwork for submission to the California Coastal Commission’s annual K-12 Art & Poetry Contest. Students will be provided with paper, graphite pencils, colored pencils, markers, watercolors, brushes, construction paper, glue, and crayons. While the workshop will be primarily self-led, CalNAM staff and volunteers will be available for support at all times.

Join the California Nature Art Museum for a tidepooling walk at Gaviota State Beach on Sunday, January 12th 2025 from 2:00PM- 4:00PM, searching for intertidal creatures that will be visible due to the extra low “King Tides.” Participants can expect to see species such as ochre stars, gooseneck barnacles, sunburst anemones, and shore crabs, and maybe - if the group is really lucky! - small fish or an octopus!

Free for members and children, $10 for non-member adults.

October 14th | Upcycling Art Workshop with Elizabeth Criss

Join us at The Wildling Museum on Saturday, October 14th, 1 – 3 p.m. for a memorable afternoon with exhibiting artist Elizabeth Criss, whose work is currently featured in Message in a Bottle in the Michele Kuelbs Tower Gallery. Criss will guide attendees in an upcycling art workshop transforming household plastic discards into an eco-friendly fridge fishscape inspired by her own underwater creations on view at the Museum.

Workshop participants will make two (or more!) of their own magnetic fish to take home, along with newfound skills to turn old plastics into artworks of their own creation.

January 29th | Create a Nature Journal with Artist Kathy Badrak

Start the New Year off right and join artist Kathy Badrak in making your own nature journal on Sunday, January 29, 2023, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the Wildling Museum. This class will provide a fun and easy introduction to the art of handmade bookmaking.

Attendees will create a simple bound journal perfect for setting intentions for the New Year, sketching, nature journaling, and more! Books will include pockets for collecting natural specimens and a magnifying glass to assist in your outdoor journal studies and doodles.

Class fee is $50 and includes all required materials. Class size is limited to 12 participants, advance registration required.

Virtual Art Class | Serenity Stone Wrapping Workshop with Kathy Badrak

Join us on Sunday, January 24, 2021, 1:30 - 3 p.m. and Sunday, February 21, 2021, 1:30 - 3 p.m. for a fun virtual art class led by artist Kathy Badrak. Learn the basics of wrapping stones with waxed linen to make one-of-a-kind serenity stones, each as individual as you are!

Rock wrapping is an art form rooted in Japanese tradition. Wrapped stones could be used in Japanese gardens to guide visitors along a prescribed route or the correct spiritual path. Today, there are many variations of rock wrapping using many different materials. For this workshop, attendees will learn two methods of rock wrapping to create your own serenity stone.
