January 12th | King Tides Tidepooling Walk at Gaviota State Beach

King Tides Tide-pooling Walk
at Gaviota State Beach

Join the California Nature Art Museum for a tidepooling walk at Gaviota State Beach on Sunday, January 12th 2025 from 2:00PM- 4:00PM, searching for intertidal creatures that will be visible due to the extra low “King Tides.” The walk will be led by Rachel Metz, who has spent years studying marine conservation, and has led coastal identification walks on many of Santa Barbara’s beaches and on both Santa Cruz & Santa Rosa Island. Participants can expect to see species such as ochre stars, gooseneck barnacles, sunburst anemones, and shore crabs, and maybe - if the group is really lucky! - small fish or an octopus!

The CalNAM group will meet at near the bathrooms and picnic tables at 2:00PM, and will begin walking promptly at 2:10PM.
