The Wildling Museum of Art and Nature presented “A Conversation in Poem and Stories.” This program was free and open to the public. It took place on Sunday, March 10, from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM in the Valley Oak Gallery. The program featured thetwo accomplished artists, Jerry Dipego and Ron Colone. The lecture will took place at the Wildling Museum on Sunday, February 10, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Read More“Nature Abstracted,” a three-hour workshop for adults (teens were also welcome), started from a photograph of a place in the natural world which the student brought or chose. Painting an abstract version of a picture you have taken in a natural setting where you have been, such as a lake in the Sierra, the Grand Canyon, an Alaska glacier, or the view of the hills from your backyard, can be more meaningful. After a few warm-up exercises and descriptions of different styles of abstract art, students painted an acrylic abstraction of this photo on canvas.

Susan Rowland’s talk used depth psychology and alchemy to show what modern western life has forgotten, ignored or repressed, that the imagination is the most important natural resource, one that connects us to non-human nature as an essential part of our being.

Inspired by nature, these artists use diverse materials and methods to create environments that engage the imagination. The viewer was invited to look into the details of their artwork and explore the unique weaving of image, texture, and pattern that resembles nature and yet is unlike anything in the natural world.
