Wildling Museum and W.E. Watch Host Celebration of Student Artists
On Wednesday, May 28, 2014 a reception was held for the young artists’ exhibit, Visions of the Night Sky, at the Wildling Museum, 1511-B Mission Drive, Solvang. Visions of the Night Sky showcased talented student artists and was the culmination of 2013-14, third grade astronomy units in Santa Ynez Valley schools. Since 2002, the Save Our Stars Committee of Women’s Environmental Watch (W.E. Watch) has sponsored Astronomy in the Schools presentations to enrich the teachers’ astronomy work with their students. Students not only learned about astronomy but how controlling outdoor lighting protects animal and human health and enables young and old to enjoy the splendor of the Valley’s dark skies. Astronomy is required in the science curriculum for Grades 3, 5 and 8 in California. The evening included a presentation of awards and refreshments provided by the Healthy Alternatives Committee of W.E. Watch. Visions of the Night Sky was seen until September 22, 2014 in the Barbara Goodall Education Center at the Wildling Museum.
Women’s Environmental Watch (W.E. Watch) began in 1992 as an organization of caring Santa Ynez Valley residents who wanted to maintain and preserve the beauty and enjoyability of the land for the benefit of all and for the future of our children.
