This year the benefit was located at the historic Firestone Vineyard, now owned by the Foley-owned family of vineyards. In the 1970s, the son of tire-magnate Harvey Firestone established a ranch here in Los Olivos. Leonard Firestone realized the potential of the land to grow grapes and later with his son Brooks and his wife Kate, they joined forces to establish the area’s first estate winery. In 2007, William P. Foley purchased the estate to add to his growing portfolio of specialty wineries up and down the Central Coast.

The benefit included a delicious buffet catered by Feast and Fest and supplemented by the wonderful wines of Firestone and beer from Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co.

We were honored to give our Wilderness Spirit Award to the very deserving Jean Schuyler that was accepted by her son, Peter. We were very sad to share the news that our Wilderness Spirit Award recipient, Jean Schuyler, passed away a before the event. We honored and remembered her at our event and had a guest book available for anyone who wanted to share a thought or memory with the family.  Jean left our community with an incredible legacy of philanthropic support for many nonprofit organizations, including our own, and was a beloved and supportive family member and friend to so many.  More information about her life and legacy can be found here: https://bit.ly/2IGxSAD. She truly has a heart that embraces wilderness preservation and education and has made a lasting difference in our community.

Proceeds from the Barbeque help to ensure the Wildling’s continued ability to provide quality art exhibitions and programs that connect our visitors and community to the importance and wonder of nature, both locally and far afield. Thank you to our sponsors, guests, and volunteers.
