“The Santa Barbara Channel: Three Examinations Into Life Offshore" with Mimi deGruy
SUN. OCTOBER 20TH, 2024 / 2:00 PM– 3:30 PM
A collection of footage taken from three films aired on National Geographic, the BBC, and PBS highlights the importance and untamed beauty of marine life just beyond the coasts of the Channel Islands, and in the Santa Barbara Channel. A few species of particular interest include the angel shark and horn shark, giant pacific octopus, and Channel Islands fox.
Mimi Armstrong deGruy is a Santa Barbara based documentary filmmaker. Together with her late husband filmmaker Mike deGruy, Mimi produced numerous hours of television for National Geographic Television, The British Broadcasting Corporation, WNET’s series Nature, The Discovery Channel, and other broadcasters. They have received numerous awards including three CINE Golden Eagle awards, Gold Awards at the Houston International Film Festival, The New York International Film Festival, The Wildscreen International Film Festival, The Missoula International Film Festival and many others.
With this collection of short film clips, Mimi aims to showcase the extraordinary life that exists within the Channel, beneath the surface of the ocean that locals and tourists see everyday. She believes that it is our collective responsibility to do all we can to protect it.
Join us for an inspirational and educational short film screening and Q&A with Mimi deGruy in the Second Floor Valley Oak Gallery.
Tickets are $5 for members, and $10 for non-members.
