Mayan Weaving with Maria Luciana Perez Lopez

On Wednesday, July 23, 2014, Maria Luciana Perez Lopez (Luciana) demonstrated traditional Mayan weaving at the Wildling Museum. The Museum Gift Shop will hosted a trunk show of products made from the weaving done by Luciana and her team in Guatemala.
Luciana is the leader of Tesoros del Corazon (Treasures of the Heart), a cooperative of nine weavers living in San Martin, a small village of indigenous Mayan people living in the highlands of Guatemala. The artists use a backstrap weaving technique to create intricate weavings. Backstrap weaving is an important part of the Mayan culture and patterns and designs are passed from generation to generation.
