Join us on Thursday, November 12, 2020, 4 - 5 p.m. for a virtual Zoom presentation by James Hines, Conservation Director for the Los Padres Chapter of the Sierra Club. While serving as an activist for a wide range of conservation issues in the region and beyond, Hines’ presentation will largely focus on plans for the Wildlife Overpass at Liberty Canyon, a wildlife crossing planned in Agoura Hills. This exciting project recently received a commitment of $5 million from the California Wildlife Conservation Board and will provide a safe way for wildlife – including mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, deer, and many other species – to cross the eight-lane 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills. The bridge is set to be more than 200-feet-long, connecting the Santa Monica Mountains to the south and the Simi Hills to the north, making it the largest crossing of its kind in the world upon its expected completion in 2023.

Following the main presentation, Hines will share a few updates on area conservation proposals such as the Chumash Marine Sanctuary, an update on the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act and its impacts on preserving the Los Padres National Forest and the Carrizo Plain National Monument. A Q & A session will follow.
